When Someone Drags Your Name Down To Put Theirs Up

someone drags your name down

Yes, they did you bad.

All the good hearts have been through this. Yes, whoever is reading this, we all have been through this. Not-so-good people like to spread rumors about good people and act as victims when they are one with the knife. We all have been through that.

Ya, it’s very hard to be around them. The easiest way is to cut them out of your life. Don’t pick up their call, never reply to their text, and always check through the window before answering the door. But you can’t always do that when they are family or someone like family.

But there is something, or many other things you can do. You know what, you can reveal their face and not let them do that to you again. This will take time. It’s not like a magic spell or something.

1.  Don’t Feed Them With Your Content

Content here means your life events. They don’t have to know what’s happening with your life. Nobody has to know. Nobody here, are people from whom they can get the information. By doing this, you’re giving them nothing to talk about you, and you are also cutting negativity out of your life.

And yes, this can be hard when it’s your blood family. But it’s okay, let them say you are being rude, mean, or selfish. Let people notice this change in you. It’s important for people to notice that you have distance from ‘That Person’ or ‘That group of people.’

This takes time. Don’t rush. And don’t tell them you have changed. Allow them to feel the change in you.

2.  Don’t Be Vocal When Not-So-Good Person Is Present

Having an opinion is good. But you don’t always have to say it, especially when someone is ready to target you. If you become vocal about situations, a not-so-good person will manipulate your statement and turn everyone against you, even when you said it with a very good intention.

To avoid that, you would want to play along and agree to everything even if you don’t want to agree to it. And when a not-so-good person is gone, you can put your thoughts on the situation to the rest of the people.

Avoiding arguments with a not-so-good person or not-so-good people is a must. By doing this, you are giving them no chance to retaliate.

3. Avoid Having In-Person Conversations

Having an in-person conversation with someone who always drags your name down is not a good idea. You might find them to be a very nice person at that moment. That’s because they are trying to find your weaknesses and trigger you at the right time.

Also, avoid sharing your opinion while having a conversation with them. This is because they love to manipulate your statements and present your thoughts in a different way to someone else. They do this to weaken your bond with someone you are close to.

And you don’t always have to justify yourself. Time will do that for you.

4. Always Have Conversations When Everybody Is Present

When a not-so-good person or not-so-good people are your blood, it’s not easy to always avoid conversation. You have to talk about important events or situations. To avoid manipulated information being passed to the third person, you would want to talk about it when everybody is present.

You have questions or want to know something, or have to share an idea on something, you want to do it when everyone is present. Even if it’s a one-on-one conversation with a not-so-good person, you want to do that when somebody is present.

Even if you want to talk about how they hurt you, you would want to have that conversation when everybody is present. When there are eye-witnesses, they really cannot trash your character.

5. Prepare Yourself Before You Have Conversations

Always be prepared about what you want to say and how you want to say it. And stay calm during conversation. They might say something or do something to trigger you, but when you stay calm, you can get through the conversation.

Also, find the right words to use, sound confident, and just talk about the topic you want to discuss. And if the conversation is going elsewhere, get back on track. Don’t let their words trigger you or manipulate you. Don’t talk about a topic you are not prepared to talk about.

Once the conversation is over, get yourself busy with something else. Don’t hang on to the same topic for a long time. They are always waiting for your response to drag your name down, never give them that chance.

6. Don’t Dodge Responsibility

You don’t have to be irresponsible to avoid a not-so-good person or not-so-good people. You can still fulfill all your responsibilities and avoid them. Just try not to be around them often.

They drag your name down when you are not around. So, you don’t want to miss the event where they will be. Be social with everyone and avoid interacting with them.

Whenever it’s time for you to take responsibility, take it. People have to see your good side when someone is trashing your name. And you don’t have to trash their name; you want to prove you are not the bad guy.

7. Let People Notice Your Boundaries With Not-So-Good People

It will take time for people to notice you are distancing yourself from not-so-good people. Until they notice, be patient. And avoid any mess.

Once they notice, you can pour your heart out. You will be alright. All you need to do is communication your emotions well so that everything is clearly understood by person you are taking with. And don’t let not-so-good people into your life again.

And remember, once a snake, always a snake. Behavior changes, but personality doesn’t.

Quick Summary

  • Some people try to elevate themselves by spreading rumors and dragging others down.
  • The best response is not retaliation, but protecting your peace and setting clear boundaries.
  • Keep personal life details private to avoid giving them material to twist or gossip about.
  • Be cautious about sharing opinions around people who may manipulate your words.
  • Avoid unnecessary one-on-one conversations, especially with those who have a pattern of misrepresentation.
  • When important discussions are necessary, have them in group settings where communication is transparent.
  • Prepare yourself before difficult conversations: stay calm, focused, and confident.
  • Continue fulfilling your responsibilities and maintaining good character so your actions speak for themselves.
  • Let others naturally notice the boundaries you’ve set instead of announcing them.
  • Protect your energy, act wisely, and allow consistency and truth to reveal who you really are.
  • The goal is not to drag them down in return, but to rise through composure, self-respect, and smart boundaries.

Final Thought

When someone drags your name down to put their name up, you don’t have to do the same. You show people who you truly are. You prove the narrative of not-so-good people is wrong. And aggregation never works, but a calm and composed mind does.

You can be angry with them in your room, but when you are out there, you will have to act smart and show people their true colors.
